1. Product Description

The European Type Forged Carbon Steel Bow Shackle is a high‑strength, galvanized lifting and rigging component designed for heavy industry, marine mooring, construction hoisting, and webnet (safety net) tensioning. Manufactured from premium carbon steel via drop forging, this bow (anchor) shackle features a hot‑dip galvanized finish for excellent corrosion resistance in harsh outdoor, marine, and industrial environments.

The shackle is produced to European standards, offering a wider bow radius than D‑shackles, which allows it to accept multiple sling legs or larger rope eyes without pinching. It is 100% load tested and available in sizes from 3 mm to 32 mm, with breaking loads ranging from 400 kg to 38,000 kg (0.4T to 38T). The standard pin type is a round collar pin (screw or locking pin optional). Fully customizable in size, packaging, logo, surface finish, and material (carbon steel or alloy steel). Free samples and small orders are accepted, with door‑to‑door service available.

6. Technical Principles

6.1 Material & Forging Process

The shackle is drop forged from high‑quality carbon steel (e.g., grade 20#, 35# or equivalent). Forging aligns the grain structure, eliminating internal voids and increasing strength and fatigue resistance. The bow shape distributes tensile loads evenly across the curved body, minimizing stress risers at the pin holes.

6.2 Safety Factor

These shackles are designed with a typical safety factor of 4:1 or 5:1 (breaking load / working load limit). For example, a shackle with a breaking load of 10,000 kg has a safe working load (SWL) of 2,000–2,500 kg. Users must never exceed the SWL and should account for dynamic loads, side angles, and wear.

6.3 Hot‑Dip Galvanizing

The zinc coating (typically 40‑80 µm thick) provides cathodic protection. Even if the coating is scratched, the zinc corrodes preferentially, protecting the steel base. This makes the shackle suitable for long‑term outdoor exposure, saltwater splash zones, and humid construction sites.

6.4 Pin Locking Mechanisms

  • Round collar pin – Quick insertion and removal; the collar prevents the pin from sliding out under normal loads. Suitable for static or low‑vibration applications.
