Product Description
| Category | Accessory Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Cable | Stainless Steel Wire Rope | Typically Φ3mm (1/8") or Φ4mm. Construction: 7×7 (flexible) or 1×19 (rigid). AISI 316 Marine Grade for corrosion resistance. |
| Wall Fixings | Wall Standoffs / Spacer Bars / Hubs | Threaded rods or base plates fixed to the wall to keep cables 5-10 cm away from the surface for ventilation. Includes internal/external threaded adapters. |
| Tensioning | Turnbuckles / Tensioners | Used to tighten the wire rope. Common types: Hook-Hook (J/J), Hook-Eye (J/E), or Fork-Fork (F/F). |
| Terminals | Threaded Terminals / Swage Studs | End fittings to anchor the cable to wall mounts or turnbuckles. Available in swaged (permanent) or mechanical (adjustable) versions. |
| Crossings | Cross Clamps / Cross Hubs | Secure the intersection points of horizontal and vertical cables. Available in stainless steel or UV-resistant plastic. |
| Crimping | Aluminum / Copper Ferrules | Sleeves used to create loops at the end of the cable. Requires a swaging tool/crimper. |
| End Caps | PVC / Stainless Steel End Caps | Covers the cut ends of the wire rope to prevent injury. |
| Anchoring | Wall Anchors / Expansion Bolts / Masonry Plugs | Selected based on substrate (brick, concrete, wood). Includes lag bolts or sleeve anchors. |
| Optional | Thimbles, Wire Rope Clips, Sealing Discs | Thimbles protect the cable eye from kinking; Clips are for temporary fixing; Discs prevent water ingress into walls. |
Preparation: Tools & Materials
Tools: Measuring tape, spirit level, pencil/chalk, hammer drill (with 5/16" or 8-10mm masonry bit), hex wrenches (4-6mm), cable cutter, swaging tool (or locking pliers), needle-nose pliers.
Materials: Φ3/4mm 7×7 Stainless Steel Wire Rope, Wall Standoffs (Hubs), Turnbuckles (Tensioners), Threaded Terminals/Swage Studs, Cross Clamps, Aluminum/Copper Ferrules, Wall Anchors (Expansion Bolts), PVC End Caps.
Step 1: Design & Layout Marking
Measure the installation area. Determine grid spacing based on the plant species—typically horizontal spacing 12"-20" (30-50cm) and vertical spacing 16"-24" (40-60cm) (use larger grids for Ivy/Boston Ivy, tighter grids for Roses/Clematis).
Use a spirit level and pencil to mark all fixing points. Ensure marks avoid weak mortar joints or window frames.
Step 2: Drilling & Mounting Wall Standoffs
Drill holes at marked points (for concrete/brick: typically φ8-10mm, depth 1.5"-2" / 40-50mm) and insert nylon wall plugs.
Screw the Wall Standoffs (Hubs) into the plugs and tighten securely. Ensure the standoffs position the cables 2"-4" (5-10cm) away from the wall to allow for air circulation. It is recommended to install the four corner brackets first and check diagonal measurements for squareness.
Step 3: Stringing the Cables & Grid Setup
Horizontal/Vertical or Diagonal: Cut the wire rope slightly longer than the design length (leave extra slack). Feed one end through the starting Hub → loop the cable back through an aluminum ferrule → crimp it securely with a swaging tool (double-crimp recommended); alternatively, attach a terminal end to a turnbuckle.
Route the cable through the slots/holes of each intermediate Hub. Place Cross Clamps at every intersection but do not tighten them yet.
For a diamond pattern, start from the diagonal hubs and position cross clamps at the intersections.
Step 4: Tensioning & Securing
Rotate the Turnbuckles (Tensioners) to gradually tighten the wire rope until it is straight and taut without sagging. Caution:Do not overtighten, as this may pull out anchors or damage the wall structure.
Once tension is uniform, lock the jam nuts on the turnbuckles, tighten the set screws on the Hubs, and fully secure all Cross Clamps.
Trim any excess cable, leaving approx. 1/8" - 1/4" (3-5mm) of tail. Tap on PVC or Stainless Steel End Caps to cover sharp ends.
Step 5: Inspection & Plant Guidance
Double-check that all anchors are secure and tension is even across the grid. After planting, gently tie the main vines to the cables using soft plant ties to guide initial growth. The plants will naturally self-cling over time.
Important Notes
- Material Compatibility: Use AISI 304 or 316 Stainless Steel for all components (standoffs, bolts, turnbuckles). Avoid mixing dissimilar metals to prevent galvanic corrosion.
- Thermal Expansion: Install with slight slack in summer (as heat expands metal) and slightly tighter in winter.
- Large Areas: For spans exceeding 10 feet (3 meters), add intermediate support points or upgrade to a larger diameter cable (e.g., Φ5mm).
